Well Winter decided to finally show up during Spring this year. Our area has set a new April record for snowfall by the time I was able to write this. Yes I am a few weeks behind on blogs, 3 to be exact but we have been keeping up with our 52 Week Hike Challenge.
This particular week though we kept it close to home in a very familiar spot for us. La Crosse River State Fishery Area is the true name of the public land we just call it the spot off highway 21 lol. This particular spot has served us on many different levels from deer hunting, trapping, hiking, geocaching, canoeing down the river, a few minutes of peace after work, we even took our maternity pictures here. So yea you could say we frequent this place a bit.
We did the shorter hike version this time around, just under 2 miles as there was about 6-8 inches of snow we had to tromp through. My legs actually hurt more after this hike than they did after a five mile run. First time we actually had to throw our winter boots on. Phoenix was loving trying to walk through all this snow and fascinated by leaving footprints. We let him walk for about a quarter of mile then decided it was time to get in the pack so we could get back and make some dinner on time.
The DNR just recently put in a new parking area right off the highway we parked here as the road down to the original parking area was not plowed. The hiking route we took was the unplowed gravel road down to just right before the old parking lot and turned right onto the logging roads that lead you through the woods and back around to gravel road eventually. The wet snow weighing down all the pine trees was just beautiful. Made you feel like you were in one of those small quaint picturesque mountain towns of Colorado, well without the mountains of course but hey we can pretend right.
Ill let the video speak for itself.
Thanks again for everyones interest.
I myself am off for quite an adventure this weekend, don’t worry there will be a blog to follow. Make your weekend one to remember!!
